With the growing concerns about the climate change, terrorist attacks and COVID-19, we are driven towards a new survival mode, characterized by utility, resilience and adaptability. My outfits are detachable thanks to hardware such as snap-hooks, D-rings. There’s a play with the use of different hardware. It has a feel of feminine utilitarian style. Meanwhile, craft has been showcased through different weaves of checks and plaids. My initial inspiration was a bag made from plastic I discovered at the Kalaghoda Art Festival. I also used discarded check fabric from a shirt factory. As I continued with my research I realized how strongly the punk era is associated with checks. Punk clothing featured upcycled materials mixed with chains and metal hardware for an innovative approach to fashion. I wanted to unveil the brighter side of punk for SS 2021.
